Themes & Characters
This book was inspired by Exodus 12:38, which says "a mixed multitude" left Egypt with the Hebrews to go to The Promised Land. What did they look like? What were their stories? Quickly, two young girls emerged.
Who is chosen?
Hannah receives a message from God that changes her whole philosophy about the Egyptians. Once raised to fear the Egyptians, she must overcome everything she once believed and attempt to save the life of her new friend, Anipe.
Why do bad things happen?
There is so much evil around us all the time. My novel attempts to address the question, WHY? In case you were wondering what the title means, it's a quote from the book of Job. His story inspires us to keep trusting in God, even when the rivers swell.
Can you save others?
Hannah receives a message from God that changes her whole philosophy about the Egyptians. Once raised to fear the Egyptians, she must overcome everything she once believed and attempt to save the life of her new friend, Anipe.
Journey from Egypt
The journey to The Promised Land began in the city of Pi-Ramesses, which was located in the territory of Goshen. Instead of going north along the Mediterranean Sea, God led the people south.

They got stuck at Etham and turned back to camp at Pi-Hahiroth, where God parted the Red Sea. The people then spent 40 years wandering in the desert. God was trying to form a new nation out of them, but the people continued to question God's provision.

Note: Midian is the location Moses fled to after committing murder 40 years before the Exodus. Aswan, Memphis, and Bubastis are other cities mentioned in When the Rivers Swell.
