ON THE RUN. DESPERATE FOR TRUTH. ONLY THE GRACE OF GOD CAN SAVE HER.

After fleeing Egypt with the Hebrews for a chance at a better life, Egyptian street girl Seshat believes she’s leaving her past crimes behind. But, as she quickly finds, some crimes can’t be shaken.

She is saved by Gideon, a young Hebrew shepherd who causes her to reconsider everything: her lifestyle, her heart, her religion. But relationships are never simple. When another boy, a scrappy young Egyptian, walks into her life, Seshat must decide whether to cling to her old ways or place her trust in the God of the Hebrews.

Gideon soon realizes he might be the only one who can lead Seshat to the truth.

Themes & Characters

When we think about the Hebrews in the Wilderness, we think about newfound freedom and peace. But that couldn't be farther from the truth. Idol worship and slavery were still very much at work. This novel explores the not-so-talked-about parts of the Hebrews' Wilderness Wanderings.

Journey from Egypt

The journey to The Promised Land began in the city of Pi-Ramesses, located in the territory of Goshen. Instead of following trade routes north along the Mediterranean Sea, God led the people south.

They got stuck at Etham and turned back to camp at Pi-Hahiroth, where God parted the Red Sea. The people then spent 40 years wandering in the desert. God was trying to form a new nation out of them, but the people continued to question God's provision.

Note: Midian is the area to which Moses fled after committing murder 40 years before the Exodus. Marah and Mt. Sinai are other locations mentioned in Where the Desert Blooms.
